Why Denim?

Denim is the epitome of everyday wear. With its durability and timeless appeal, it’s the kind of fabric everyone loves to wear day in and day out. Denim is a classic wardrobe staple that never goes out of style, reducing the need for constantly purchasing new trend-driven items. Whether dressing for work, casual outings, or simply relaxing at home, denim fits into every situation. And its rugged nature means that, with proper care, it can last for years – decades, even. Denim’s resilience makes it the perfect material for creating clothing that stands the test of time.

What’s more, the beauty of denim lies in its authenticity. It’s considered perfectly acceptable for denim to show signs of wear. A few faded spots or frayed edges only add character and charm. When it’s finally time to retire a pair, denim can easily be repurposed, making it a truly sustainable material.



Material

Our denim is carefully selected to align with Nomen Nescio’s values of sustainability and durability. We offer two distinct denim materials to meet these standards. The first is cottonized hemp, a blend of 80% organic cotton and 20% hemp-based denim known for its strength and eco-friendly qualities. The second is an ultra-soft and stretchy blended fabric, crafted from 80% organic cotton, 15% lyocell, 3% polyester, and 2% elastane. This blended material also features an innovative stay-black finish, ensuring the deep black color remains vibrant wash after wash.

We source our denim from European mills, prioritizing organic cotton and hemp-based options. The leather tags on our jeans are made from by-products of the European food industry and are LWG certified, meeting strict environmental and sustainability standards.

Denim is a low-maintenance fabric that doesn’t require frequent washing, making it both eco-conscious and practical. Its robust nature means it can be worn for long stretches before needing a wash, which helps conserve water and energy in the long run.



Production

Every pair of Nomen Nescio denim jeans is designed in Helsinki and produced by MASI, a Finnish clothing company, in the town of Varga, South Estonia. With over 50 years of expertise in denim production, MASI is renowned for its precision and commitment to sustainability. The entire production process from cutting and sewing to washing and finishing is done under one roof, ensuring quality control and efficiency. of Varga. MASI is highly dedicated to circular economy practices, minimizing waste at every stage of production. All fabric scraps are collected and upcycled into new fibers, which can be reused to create yarns, felts, or even new fabrics. This sustainable approach ensures that valuable raw materials are repurposed rather than discarded.

In the washing process, only biodegradable chemicals are used, and water is recycled to minimize usage. This thoughtful approach to production not only reduces the environmental impact of our products but also ensures that every pair of jeans is made with care and respect for the planet.
