Why the ×?

If we didn’t have to, we might not use a logo at all. But we understand the need to mark what you’ve made and to stand behind something with clarity. 

Even choosing a brand name was difficult. We landed on Nomen Nescio — Latin for “no name” or “name unknown.” A quiet refusal, a space left open. The abbreviation N.N. is traditionally used to signify someone anonymous, someone whose name is not known.

That’s what our brand stands for: the freedom to remain undefined. A silent identity that allows space for our community. And that’s why our brand symbol is a placeholder: an ×.

The × represents that space — the freedom to be in-between, evolving, in-process. In minimalism, an empty page isn’t yet anything, but one line, one mark, that’s already something more. The × is our smallest possible mark. Not an image, not a slogan, just a shared space.

We design black clothing for those who value simplicity, quality, and intention. Our garments are gender-neutral and status-free, made without visual labels or signifiers. The forms are sculptural, developed through experimentation with proportion and cut.

At Nomen Nescio, minimalism is a style but also a philosophy. When what you have is meaningful, you need less.

And so, we mark our work with an × — not to define it, but to leave space for you.
